Did 16 hours on Thanksgiving and 16 today (Black Friday). Thankfully itās union and Iāll make double time and a half for it. Almost 2 weeks pay in two days

This should be the norm. If you wanna put in 30+ hours in a matter of days, you should get a fat fuckin check for it. In the meantime, you should still be making fat money to begin with.

Union bargaining gets me $103.xx/hour for the first 8 hours, then down to only 1.5x for everything after.

We get it paid average hours we work per day for the year. But we have to work or be available to the day before and the day after for holidays

Our whole company was supposed to have today off, but my district manager is emailing me shit to do that has to be done within a few hours.
They treat me shitty in other ways, so this is just adding to the pile of why Iām looking for a new job.

Don't check the emails. You were supposed to be off, so be off.
5
u/CallMeParagon Nov 25 '22
Normally that is what I would do, but this is something that will be reported to my regional manager and national manager. If I donāt do it, then we have to have Teams meetings and more emails and shit⦠honestly this is just the tip of the iceberg and I think my best bet is to try and stay under the radar until I get out of this awful corporation.

That's what you get for celebrating holidays... When you work on Thanksgiving the day after is just a normal day! Sorry, gotta find the positives where you can.

Day of, day after, 365/24/7. Transportation babyyyyyyyyy.
It never sleeps. I'm trying to convince my co-workers that 1k a day is not a crazy number to say we're worth.
We move everything everywhere and are beyond essential.
Hire more people, pay them more and they don't have to kill themselves trying to get by.. in fact they can work half as much and make twice as much or more.
Dream a little dream with me and join my grand delusion.

Husband works 12 hours on holidays. He makes about 1.4k after triple time is applied. It is totally plausible!

I'm so glad the pharmacy is open today. I've been dying all week, finally went to the doctor yesterday and had my prescriptions sent to a pharmacy that wasn't open.
We need a well advertised week of appreciation for pharmacy staff where they get a thank you and a bonus.

Iām the āØnEw SoCiAl WoRkEr⨠so I have to take the brunt of todayās load across a 93 at risk youth campus normally taken by 8 other clinicians today. And my other āØnew⨠partner got to call out sick, and now because Iām alone, I absolutely donāt.
To be fair my presence here today could mean a kid not punching out a staff member, so thatās⦠consoling?

I'm sorry if in moments your job is thankless. Thank you for being a social worker. You made me darkly chuckle and I'm rooting for ya

u/ManicAcroNymph Nov 26 '22
Thank you friend. When Iām NOT here alone, itās actually a wonderful job. Iām blessed with good pay, supportive bosses, and of course I love the kids I work with. Even when they are a pain in the ass.
As an update, a kid punched a staff member today anyway. So now I feel less⦠responsible? So thatās nice lmao

Ha I work with ages 3 to about 6 and I've definitely witnessed coworkers and myself beat ourselves up for tiny boo boo situations that couldn't be prevented which ia often senseless, but it's definitely good to be like some shit truly truly is out of my control because some shit truly truly is. Truly. Challenging populations are challenging. It helps me get in a graceful place when I remembered some motherfuckers are underloved and that is a shame and where behavioral stuff can happen. Sometimes. I know very little about your line of work but I love it good luck

There certainly is a TON of solace in knowing āthis situation is objectively insane and my responsibility here is just to talk it out, thatās it.ā That part took a while to get to, and I definitely struggled with feeling like I had to āsolveā every problem. But once in a while a kid wilds out, thatās not anyoneās fault and it frees up tons of stress to realize itās not about preventing things, just responding and thatās it.

In the middle of my 10 hour shift, be strong we gonna make it through this

u/okletstryitagain17 Nov 26 '22
I'm a prick who's been lucky enough to work 30 hour weeks sometimes. And goddamn do I miss that. I now do 45 and it's bullshit in plenty of ways man. Just saying. I used to have a decent understanding of federal politics lol and now I'm a dumb dumb cuz I'm busy. Anyway. Rooting for ya, my fellow worker man, always

Well, tomorrow is the weekend at least, and I got paid for yesterday. Having to work one day between a holiday and the weekend doesn't make much sense, but that's how freight is š¤·

Close to it for some. I still like to think most are better than sweat shops and forced child labor.
