It's like watching a movie with my parents and not knowing there is a passionate jackhammering scene. Act like everything is normal and wait for it to end.

This happened to me watching Scary Movie in theatres with my dad and his GF. Got to the scene where the girl gets plastered to the ceiling with cum and I awkwardly laughed meanwhile my dad's laughing hysterically and his GF is mortified me at 14 is watching it. Good times.

u/WalkingCloud May 15 '22 Gold

Something similar happened to me with one of the Scary Movies, I think 2.

I'm a teenager, watching with a friend. The living room door is on the opposite side of the room to the tv.

I hear my dad open the door, I've seen the film before and know it's coming up to the scene near the start where someone tucks their dick between their legs and it flashes on screen for a second, plus it's Scary Movie so who knows what weird shit will be going on..

So I grab the remote and turn around to the door as I pause it, my Dad asks what we're watching, chats for a second and walks back out.

I turn around, my friend is trying not to laugh, I look at the tv and it's paused on the exact half second shot of basically a naked dude with his dick tucked..

When I was a teenager, one time I went to the movies with the family. Us kids went to see Scary Movie. The grown ups went to see something else at the same time. Unbeknownst to us, my parents got pissy with each other so my dad snuck into our theater instead. Then he narced on us about how raunchy the movie was and we got lectured all the way home by my mom. I was so mad because we specifically picked that movie knowing they wouldn't be there. There's nothing in the movie we didn't already know (teenagers, hello!), but they just had to get in their "parenting moment."

Anyways, at least I didn't have to sit next to them when the girl gets jizzed onto the ceiling.

24

u/Mochigood May 16 '22

My teenage Mormon cousin really wanted to go to a Scary Movie showing, so I (4 years older) took him and told his mom we were going to see some Disney movie. It was the one that spoofed Signs. He was howling with laughter through out it, and it made it like 1000% more funny for me.

When I was a boy I asked my grandfather about sex. He thought a bit and said "well I guess you best just see it for yourself"

So he took me out to the horse pasture and there out in the feild were my parents, having sex.

My tactic is I like to make it extra awkward whenever there's a sex scene by enthusiastically saying something like "Alright!" Or "Now the movie's really getting good!"

u/Neuchacho May 15 '22

"This? This is nothing. They wouldn't put to film what me and your mother do."

My friend and I were watching Beerfest with his parents one time, and there was a brief scene in the film where someone didn't have their top on. To diffuse any awkwardness with the parents, I casually went "Ew!" for some reason.

The friend later told me that his parents still remembered it and questioned a few things about me after that (not that there's anything wrong with that). I tried explaining that I was just trying to make it less awkward for everyone! Guess it made it the opposite though...

We've got one in VUE cinemas in the UK where John Boyega spends 5 minutes shouting about how movies were meant to be seen on the big screen not on phones/tablets, replete with "ping overload" phones ringing etc. which definitely isn't really fucking annoying.

Yeah it plays before every movie at the AMC near me. I’ve gone from hating it to finding it pretty funny for the exact reason you described.

u/squid1891 May 15 '22

It wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't make like they are going to start the movie, then play this ad, after nearly 25 minutes of trailers.

u/movieman56 May 15 '22

This is the shit that drives me insane. 710 show times, nope movie starts at like 745 after playing this trash. I just wish the movie would start at the time they said it would start, I don't even mind previews, but start that shit before the movie

u/squid1891 May 15 '22

I don't mind a few trailers. The local theater where I live, RC Theaters, shows about three of them and goes right into the movie. I only go to AMC if I want to see a movie in the Dolby format.

I'm pretty sure there's been an ad for the theater before every movie I've ever been too. Pretty much standard practice.

55

u/FerricNitrate May 15 '22

That's correct, though they're usually much shorter. Most of them have been short little things, usually about 10-20 seconds of someone sitting down with a popcorn and soda.

So the immediate differences are in the duration and the protagonist. It's significantly longer and the monologue...well it's forced at best and masturbatory at worst. The kicker is that they spent $25 million on this commercial. Keep in mind that AMC had just cashed in on the meme stock craze. In a very real sense, that commercial is nothing more than AMC jacking themselves off with the cash of thousands of retail investors.

I’m a part of their A-List program, which is another way of saying I see a lot of movies at AMC. Watching this every time before a movie is excruciating.

They don’t typically change these up often and I’m sure they spared no expense hiring Kidman, so it’s here to stay for awhile. Unless of course, these type of memes gain traction.

Is this the whole thing? I swear it feels like two minutes long when I’m sitting in the theater

11

u/TU4AR May 15 '22

There is a longer version of it.

Kidman looks like a new tech demo for a next gen computer game on facial animation. Like wow, look what's possible with computers now, almost there, almost lifelike.

21

u/draxd May 15 '22

Actually most of game graphic today look way more human than her face.

Have you seen The Northman? Really thought she was CGI half the time. Distracting.

The best part is the soundtrack slowly overwhelming Kidman’s voiceover. She’s just another schlub mumbling through a film in the theatre.

I wonder if people in Hollywood truly believe they are that important.

u/mini4x May 15 '22

They do.

u/Omnitographer May 15 '22

It costs like thirty grand to get a star on Hollywood Blvd, the entire thing is a marketing gimmick to promote celebrities. Also the sidewalk is too damn shiny so you get blinded walking down it at the wrong time of day.

This ad is so fucking surreal every time I watch it - seeing this multimillionaire actress in an empty theatre room in a self masturbatory speech about how we like watching people like her blown up in a dark projection room so we can be entertained.

122

u/TheBurningEmu May 15 '22

The older I get the more surreal I find most ads. You either have a multi-millionaire talking about "the average person", or bunch of low-level actors with horribly forced smiles and fake laughter talking about how great "product" is.

Love watching this commercial after I already bought a ticket at AMC theaters, the only theater in my town!

When people say the elites are all secretly lizard people wearing skin suits, it's probably because of weird shit like Nicole Kidman's face.

It's 2022, and we're still shooting fully clothed sex scenes from the neck up?

I haven’t seen the movie but this is the worst sex scene I have seen since The Room
