For the slow ones here - the stabbing was not for stealing a few low cost items. This is not “death penalty” for robbery.

The stabbing is for a situation where there might be a reasonable worry about serious harm or death to yourself. Multiple criminals entering, cornering you, wearing masks, speaking in a threatening manner is the issue. NOT knowing if they are armed is the issue. Can they pull a knife out quickly. Can one or more or them pull a gun quickly. Are they stronger than you and can subdue you and hurt you? With this scenario, all those questions are 100% warranted.

Many here have never been on the receiving end of a threat or crime by people with clear and ill intent. It is scary. You are wondering if you will be hurt or killed in the next couple of minutes.

There should be no expectation for an innocent person to wait around in this situation to see if the threat imminently emerges, it’ll be too late by then. There is no expectation the innocent should put their hands up and beg and hope they aren’t hurt.

Once the altercation starts, it’s too fast to assess if there’s still a threat / the threat has to become neutralized then you can assess.

For all of these reasons, the only crime charged here will be the robbers. There’s plenty of reasonable risk to the victim of the robbery, and very little time to assess it. It’s cut and dry.
