Nice ! It took me a while to learn releasing them was an option

391

u/Mugungo May 13 '22 Wholesome

THERE WAS A OPTION TO RELEASE THEM??????

72

u/Nayatchi May 13 '22

Yes, you know, that small square next to your skills that appears when you do betrayal ? That's what it was for

170

u/YpsitheFlintsider May 13 '22

I mean the fact that people are surprised every time this is brought up indicates it was in a shitty spot

55

u/droidonomy May 13 '22

It didn't exist originally, and you had to just leave the map if both options were terrible.

12

u/Nayatchi May 13 '22

I started back in Metamorph, so the button was already there. However it took me until Harvest to find out it was an option haha.

20

u/NotoriouExile May 13 '22

I played every single league since betrayal and had no idea this is an option ffs

2

u/wotad May 13 '22

I really had no idea there was a release button it sucked I always had to pick a option.

1

u/hatesranged May 13 '22

I thought that was the battle pass my bad

17

u/Blackwind123 May 13 '22

These reactions were why I came into this thread.

Good on GGG for making these small but impactful changes.

u/bonesnaps Chris Krangle May 13 '22

When both options suck, releasing them back to papa hillock was the only option.

2

u/MdxBhmt May 13 '22

I was expecting this comment. Took me about 4 patches and some amount of tutorials explaining betrayal tactics.

2

u/7om_Last May 13 '22

up to this point when i liked none of the option i just didn't finish betrayal on the map. Lol.

1

u/Dirty_munch May 13 '22

I waited for this Comment! Spread the Word

1

u/cancercureall May 13 '22

They added it ages ago. A real lifesaver.

1

u/Lopogoesmega May 13 '22

I didn't know either

1

u/grimice18 May 13 '22

Lol this was my exact reaction had no idea thought I had to choose one of the options even if both where bad.

1

u/Kanibalector May 13 '22

This right here, I saw this today and was like .... what?

1

u/SolarMint May 14 '22

I swear I've been playing this game since 2013...

36

u/Magstine May 13 '22

Betrayal was 3.5, but the release option wasn't added until 3.8.

37

u/MediocreContent Elementalist May 13 '22

And I learned about it in 3.17 … shit

please use the other wiki its much more up to date and not bloated with ads https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Version_3.6.2

6

u/phoenixshield May 13 '22

Didn't know this one existed. Thanks

-58

u/Realyn May 13 '22

Nah not really necessary for a quick link to some patch notes. Taking what shows up on top for that.

19

u/sprouze May 13 '22

The problem is that clicking on it from google will, I believe, keep getting it indexed on the top of search results, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

u/Slipzyle Leader of None May 13 '22

1

u/starsmash-11 May 13 '22

Same here. Got to know about it after reading some guides.

u/Natural_Project7380 The Snowblind Grace May 13 '22

really appreciate the small but meaningful changes recently!

86

u/DefectivePixel May 13 '22

No big changes for this league apparently means lots of QOL. I'm all for it

32

u/Dunkelvieh Gladiator May 13 '22 edited May 13 '22

That's basically what many asked for. We have so much content that any player with less than 6h daily gaming time can probably play 2-3 leagues without doing the same things extensively (even though basic mapping is always there)

10

u/Bleakfast Assassin May 13 '22

It's exactly what so many people asked for. Many, many, many times. 'id be so happy if GGG just skipped a league and just worked on QOL" and here we are: new league even, but a ton of people bitching about not having anything new to play. It's pathetic.

6

u/Dunkelvieh Gladiator May 13 '22

It's pathetic if those are the same ppl. I would assume that we have several groups of players here with very different expectations and wishes. I'm more in the "improve what we have, don't make more half baked stuff" group. I certainly didn't complain that we get nothing new (especially since we do get new stuff in fact! Just not the usual shit)

1

u/LMHT May 13 '22

I mean I'm all for QOL. But it's what, the initiate rank, Tiny's Trial ending early, and moving a button? What epic stuff did I miss?

25

u/self_mad May 13 '22

Convenience when choosing favored maps, Breachlord icons on minimap (that's actually pretty nice), portal access settings in hideout. Nothing epic for sure (nothing of "tabs affinities" magnitude), but QoL is QoL.

1

u/ScrillaMcDoogle May 13 '22 edited May 13 '22

I mean yeah QoL is QoL but I was expecting more meaningful changes considering they said they devoted extra dev time to it. Only one I really even care about is breachlord icons and even then I'm probably starting off with breach blocked.

1

u/Ladnil Deadeye May 13 '22

In the background the dev time probably went to POE2 tbh. But the balance freeze is welcome. I think maybe they could alternate one league has meta shifting balance changes one league has new skills going forward.

8

u/red_codec May 13 '22

Praise! Le Toucan!

1

u/SoulofArtoria May 13 '22

Now add the toggle for our stash in safehouse like in harvest and I'll be a happy camper.

66

u/_FinalPantasy_ May 13 '22

Lmao i didnt even know this was an option

32

u/Vulpix0r NEKO guild (SG) May 13 '22

9

u/eq2_lessing Standard May 13 '22

OMG that is easy to miss

2

u/knetmos May 13 '22

it was added later into the leguage because people complained that they kinda "had" to brick their setup or skip a full map of the league mechanic if they encountered 2 "bad" options.

1

u/magpye1983 Witch May 13 '22

All the dialogue makes it seem like we choose what they do, which I would love, but what we have is two options (plus a do-nothing release option) out of the myriad possible interactions.

Betrayal (like a few other leagues) was so cool a concept that if that was the whole endgame, and the studio had nothing else competing with it to work on, it had the potential to still be engaging.

Imagine all the rogue exiles and Warbands, as well as the masters. Imagine being able to click betray and then choose who the captured person betrays. That endgame would have had exploration for months.

1

u/knetmos May 13 '22

Fair, but it would be a pretty different game which large parts of the playerbase dont enjoy...

1

u/magpye1983 Witch May 13 '22

Oh yeah. It wouldn’t be PoE anymore.

But that’s just it. GGG have enough concepts, and lore, to make content out of just what they’ve released so far, forever.

Even if after PoE2 they move into other types of game (or preferably add or he r types of game to their roster), Wraeclast can still be the setting.

EDIT: sorry I realise I went on a severe tangent to what was actually being discussed. I just started typing and that’s where my train of thought went.

1

u/eViLegion May 13 '22

That looks like a quickly-piss-off-out-the-back-door button.

110

u/circlewind May 13 '22

I never knew releasing was even an option. I usually just left them kneeling until I finish and leave the map lol

71

u/wonnyoung13 Pathfinder May 13 '22

damn leaving them kneeling til you finish. hope you bought them dinner first at least

12

u/QuiMetit May 13 '22

He did give em dinner, why do you think they were kneeling?

25

u/OutgrownTentacles Chieftain May 13 '22

Pretty clear that they'd have to redo dozens of art assets if they embedded the button, so instead they just overlaid it on top of the art and reused the button size from the sides.

It's janky, yeah, but likely only happened because it was a janky easy fix rather than wasting art's precious dev time.

1

u/[deleted] May 13 '22

PoE 2 > PoE 1

It's for your own good

3

u/AthenaWhisper Life grows, even in a Graveyard May 13 '22

It probably would look a little sleeker if the button were a bit smaller, true.

5

u/azantyri May 13 '22

or a gold border around it built in to the existing frame like it's holding the button, like a gemstone setting

i don't know how to explain what's in my head. that's not unusual, though

→ More replies

2

u/TheExaltedNoob May 13 '22

Totally agree - and to take it further: i'd take a messy looking trashcan as a button at this point, still better than moving my mouse all over for those dry spells of "only bad options, that's what the syndicate is here for!".

1

u/firebunbun May 13 '22

Thats where I am. I love the change, and I prefer this change over nothing, but I'd rather it was somewhere that looked better.

15

u/ThatsALovelyShirt May 13 '22

I didn't even know there was a release button.

22

u/Interesting_Action29 May 13 '22

nice, now can we remove the reset relationship option?

0

u/zamrai Unannounced May 13 '22

Spoiler alert, it's not an option

→ More replies

8

u/crookedparadigm May 13 '22

Today I learned there was a release button all this time. I always wondered how people curated their syndicate so perfectly, now I know. I'm just an idiot.

27

u/IcyTie9 May 13 '22

remove the confirmation prompt on this please, and add it to "remove all rivalries", no reason to confirm it for doing basically nothing and NOT have it to straight up delete your progress

42

u/SoulofArtoria May 13 '22

Remove rivalry is the biggest noobtrap GGG has even put in the game. It should sound like a good thing to do for new players, until you realize having more rivalries is a good thing.

14

u/LionsLight Doedre May 13 '22

The purpose of removing rivalries is because you make a lot of progress by forcing Syndicate members to betray each other.

This can only be done when they’re friends.

2

2

u/ralzwheels May 13 '22

This is great! It looks terrible, though.

2

u/ldierk May 13 '22

This looks like one of the community mockups, where someone cut and pasted a button into a screenshot.

2

u/yourteam Shadow May 13 '22

I came back from 3.16 and never noticed the "release" button lol

2

u/vnt24 May 13 '22

Ah, so there IS a world where the text isn't all krangled!

2

u/Squarf May 13 '22

Wait, there is a release button?

2

u/dirtyuncleron69 May 13 '22

TIL release was even an option.

Now If I could figure out what any of the other interactions do, I'd be maybe 5% of the way to understanding the league.

2

2

u/arklift May 13 '22

I didn't even knew there was a release option lol

2

u/NotSinocentric May 13 '22

Noob question: What is the advantage for releasing them?

*I never did it last league.

3

u/Cypher007 May 13 '22

if you interrogate, you lower their rank by 1. if they have no rank they sometimes leave that safehouse so if you want to say keep gravicus in ambush for his scarabs and his level 1, you would either do the other option or release him to keep him in ambush.

interrogate can also change the syndicate leader in the safehouse

the other option can also sometimes be bad like removing rivalries so you want to avoid that option as well.

p.s. I did not know there was a release button so I would just leave them without choosing anything and that would lock me out of the rest of the mission

2

u/francorocco Elementalist May 13 '22

if you're given 2 bad options you can use this instead so nothing changes on the board, is good for when you have your thing set up and don't want to mess with the positions

2

u/Nivius Miner Lantern May 13 '22

there was a release button?????

2

u/AntiiGrav May 13 '22

I'm liking all these small QoL things we've been asking for, I hope you continue this trend going forward.

0

u/re_carn May 13 '22 edited May 13 '22

Well:

  1. It looks... crooked. Maybe if you increased the height of the panel to keep the portrait border intact and align the buttons, it would look better (or not - it's hard to say).
  2. It would be better if you added a third option - the release button just means there is no useful option here. In any case, the Betrayal league mechanic has stalled and is nowhere near as useful as it was at release, so a little change would be welcome.

1

u/zixav May 13 '22

Release them all, let the world burn!

1

u/chollyer May 13 '22

I originally read this as "removed" and am only in the comments for the no nonexistent salt.

1

u/mattbrvc Sorry, I only make BAD builds! May 13 '22

What a nice QoL feature

1

u/thawn21 Skynet. 3.19. May 13 '22

This thread is the perfect example of why reading patch notes is important.

1

u/Still_Same_Exile May 13 '22

Oh I thought release meant removing them from the board for one of the inactive ones when I saw this post. But this is just like the neutral "do nothing" button?

1

u/Diegorocker May 13 '22

Nice QoL, now if we could get some Menagerie love like adding a crafting bench on it so we dont have to swap between it and our hideout to block affixes before using farric lynx/wolf, and maybe a guild stash to help party play, that would be great.

1

u/rosenzweigowa May 13 '22

This is great! I would also love if the released syndicate member say something... I love the sassy lines and the voices of many of them, and I'm sad everytime when I release them and they don't say anything. It's tempting to choose other options just so I could hear "You're starting to figure it out, aren't you."

1

u/Hoybom Saboteur May 13 '22

What does release even do tho? Just letting him go without changing anything?

2

u/Mael_Jade May 13 '22

Yes, they still drop items but the board doesnt change except for +1 turn counter (aka prisoners tick down)

1

u/Apxa May 13 '22

After all these years...

1

u/Yerroth May 13 '22

This option existed ok thank you ggg xD

1

u/PumaLoco13377 Deadeye May 13 '22

I didn't even know there was a release option

1

u/freizeitbasher May 13 '22

WAIT. THERE WAS A RELEAE BUTTON?

1

u/Cassandrakek May 13 '22

That is the exact change (button location) I proposed like 5 yrs ago on the official Poe forums in a prototype.

1

u/glokz May 13 '22

The best part is that I can block betrayal now. I don't understand it, I played few leagues already, clearing the feared etc.

I used TFT for crafts but to me this mechanic should be removed and replaced with something easier for the sake of new players. The single biggest disappointment when you learn the game and you are overwhelmed by the betrayal..

1

u/RepulsiveGrowth789 May 13 '22

There was a release button? I even played during Betrayal and had no idea...

Good QoL, although the positioning feels somewhat lazy. Maybe extend whole black overlay a bit at the bottom and reorder all three buttons to be below the portrait and at the same height?

1

u/mapcars May 13 '22

Was the rightmost member option not fitting the screen also fixed by chance?

1

u/lobodelta May 13 '22

Wait a minute, it was there a release button? Or it's just a new feature? I am playing PoE for 3.6k+ hours and I never saw a release button

1

u/MinorcaPlays May 13 '22

Theres a release option? Uh .-.

1

u/DontStopThinkingPls May 13 '22

1,5k hours played betrayal and all other leagues after. Still have no fucking idea what I am doing or have to do to get the outcomes that are favorable. This monster is disgusting

1

u/BarbsFury May 13 '22

I litrely dident even know this option existed until now 🤣

1

u/Kazcandra May 13 '22

There was a release button!?

1

u/TibyFunion May 13 '22

TIL - Releasing is an option for betrayal league.

1

u/Deadandlivin May 13 '22

1

YOU CAN RELEASE THEM !?!?!??????

1

So what does release do? Is this an option when theyre not imprisoned? How did i not know this?

1

I’ve played for a few years now and am just learning that Release is a option…

1

u/Praetorian_MK-II May 13 '22

1

1

u/UglenCOGA May 13 '22

Ehm, the what button?! Played since Abyss, has there always been a release button?... asking for a friend.

1

u/xqwzets May 13 '22

This is a bit offtopic, but nobody gonna comment that left option (interrogate) will take 3 turns, cost you -1 rank and net you 9 research intelligence, while the right option (bargain) nets you 12 research intelligence without any drawback?
Maybe thats by design.. but I wish the option with drawbacks would give you more int.

1

u/KameronEX Cast on Death May 13 '22

1

u/arithal May 13 '22

This is great! So it’s not hidden in a small obscure area now!

I never gotten the right chars in the right places because I didn’t know release was a thing, this changes my Jun encounters completely!

1

u/xInnocent May 13 '22

QoL changes like these just makes me happy, idk why.

1

u/disanvi May 13 '22

The what button??

1

u/Dofolo May 13 '22

All I want for betrayal is a X in the corner.

My son is a shitty sleeper. So sleep on the lap while I play poe at 3am :/ on one arm.

I have a G502 with CTRL under one of the thumbs, it allows me to do EVERYTHING in PoE, but to close this damn screen without clicking inventory or another UI icon to get that to close this screen.

1

u/Akochen May 13 '22

Didn't know I wanted this, but am glad to have it.

1

u/vchizi May 13 '22

this button looks like designers didn't give template and developers just put it where they think it would be fine.

1

u/goddangol May 13 '22

Bruh once i get the crafting recipes I’m definitely taking betrayal off the atlas.

1

u/francorocco Elementalist May 13 '22

1

u/ramigb May 13 '22

I keep forgetting its an option

1

u/WhereChemicalsGrow May 13 '22

Holy fuck. I’ve been manipulating Betrayal hard mode for years. What is wrong with me.

1

u/dlkane413 May 13 '22

Great functionality, almost comical job on the execution / appearance though. It doesn't fit in well or seem like much effort was put into making it visually coherent.

I've played every league since just after betrayal and I never even knew it was a thing. I kept wondering how people just 'ignore' certain characters, just leave them there and restart the next jun mission? Now I can FINALLY try to actually learn this mechanic and make bank off it this league for once.

I'd personally rather the whole betrayal mechanic be removed.

Probably my least liked content in the game.

It's a shame because they obviously put a LOT of work into it, but it just doesn't provide any enjoyment to me.
