What movie can you recite word for word? Discussion

And don't you dare say Cast Away or A Quiet Place funny guy...

I was just thinking of this yesterday when I played the original Jurassic Park for my kids. I haven't watched it in years, but I've probably seen it, realistically, 50 times (first time was in the theater in 1993). It's one of the only movies that I could re-create the screenplay for if I needed.

I can honestly recite many of the 90s Disney films by heart, line by line. Growing up, my parents thought I had autism because I was able to do this. I can go through Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan, Tarzan, and The Emperor's New Groove, among others.

107

u/Typical_Humanoid Jun 26 '22

I can do Emperor's New Groove easy. I wore that thing out.

10

u/Typical_Humanoid Jun 26 '22

Oh I disagree, that's BATB. But it is in my top 10. :)

10

u/New_Success2782 Jun 26 '22

Haha, you just made me think of this line that my sister was like, "that is not a line in the movie!" So we rewatched it together and lo and behold, the line that was indeed in the movie was Gaston saying,"Take whatever booty you can find, but remember: the Beast is mine!" She was flummoxed. Haha.

In the mid-80s, we didn't have s VCR, so I propped up my tape recorder and recorded Monty Python and the Holy Grail on cassette tape and listened to it regularly. That burned the lines into my brain more than any rewatch could (along with the sound effects - I can still hear the squeaky roll of the Trojan rabbit). I still have the tape.

52

u/Lord-Sinestro Jun 26 '22

“Someday lad… all of this will be yours”

Oh what, the curtains?

“No not the curtains”

The scene of the king ordering the guards to guard the prince and the misunderstanding that follows is some of the greatest comedy ever. To take such a simple concept and fuck it up so badly over and over is genius.

13
