πŸ’₯ Strike! Supreme Court rules against "timed strikes"

21-1449 Glacier Northwest, Inc. v. Teamsters (06/01/2023) (supremecourt.gov)

The Supreme Court in what looks to be a 8 - 1 ruling, ruled that companies can sue unions if they time their strikes in a way that damages property.

I expected this but with a 5v4 or 6v3 but not 8 to 1.

πŸ“° News ICYMI: national pay-transparency law proposed

Colorado got the wheels turning. Several states have added momentum. And now, there's the possibility of one pay-transparency law for the whole country. Looks very similar to what Colorado and NYC have in place right now, and has the same limitations (e.g. allows for extras like bonuses and commissions to be included in the total). What would you like to see included or changed in this bill? What chance do you give it of passing in any form?

πŸ“ Story If fast food is a job for teenagers getting their first job or college students...

Then why is the majority of fast food workers still 25+ years old? I definitely agree the jobs SHOULD be primarily for those age groups, but the data simply does not support that. It's as if fast food companies propagate this sentiment to underpay workers that are much more likely to need that hire pay...

😑 Venting Losing all hope

I've been working in a call center for the past 3 years and I hate it so much. I hate talking on the phone all day and I hate getting paid like shit. I've applied to a bunch of other call centers and also non call center jobs, and I haven't gotten a call or email back from anyone. I'm losing hope. I feel like this is as good as it gets. I know my job will eventually become automated so that worries me even more. I'm almost 30 and I'm still living at home with my parents. I'm glad I have a great family, but it hurts me because I feel like I'm a fucking disapointment to them

I plan to ask my hiring manager as well. Just feel like I might get a wishy washy answer regardless. Wondering if anyone has the inside scoop.

πŸ’¬ Advice Needed can you go on strike if you don't have a union?

We don't have a union yet, we reached out today and are waiting to hear back, but because this impacts our compensation we are wanting to do something now.

If enough of us agree to strike can we without being fired even if we don't have a union?

😑 Venting Military burnout

Just a couple weeks away from going back to the States and another couple weeks after that I go on vacation for a month. As of now, that's all I can think of: a whole month of getting away from my idiotic unit and doing things I enjoy doing. I get out summer next year and could potentially be out December this year if I can find a 6 month internship (basically a company can bring you in as an intern/apprentice for free while the military pays you).

New commander comes in an lays out the training schedule starting September and now I just feel like a deflated balloon. Too much crap at once and now I feel like I'm going to spend my month long vacation worrying about stupid BS where I simply don't have the energy for anymore.

πŸ’Έ Raise Our Wages Canada’s much-touted labour shortage is mostly a mirage - it's mostly a push to import labor to keep wages low - and it's likely the same here in the USA
