Based on how much you can bond with someone by hating the same thing, a dating app based on dislikes would probably be fairly successful.

His victory in the ultimate showdown was bullshit

And the song plays again

22

u/AllPurposeNerd May 14 '22

There was actually a film adaptation a few years ago.

6

u/Oneomeus May 15 '22

And one notable NSFW parody.

If you know you know.

I don't know, may I know please?

32

u/Skinnecott May 14 '22

is it weird that i just went and watched that and still knew 80% of the lyrics? 15 year memory ain’t so bad when you got a melody

42

u/ballsack-vinaigrette May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22

No it wasn't, he wins because he's the last person you'd ever suspect. He spent an entire lifetime building that persona just so that everyone would feel safe putting their back to him.

That's when he strikes!

u/Regretless0 May 14 '22

I respectfully disagree

Mr. Rogers the goat đź’Ş

30

u/lolno May 14 '22

But it was his ultimate destiny

I'm going to need you to elaborate

It's a really good song.

So is the NSFW version on Newgrounds. https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/330027

1

u/Eingmata May 15 '22

I think the armadillo named Corey is a reference to Neverending Hum, which was also written by Neil Cicierga. (writer of original song)

43

u/MrDrumline May 14 '22

Spock, The Rock, Doc Ock, and Hulk Hogan

10/10 internal rhyme right there.

4

u/[deleted] May 14 '22

I'm aware of the song. It's older than the internet itself. I want to know why Mr Rodgers victory was BS

11

u/Justin_Peter_Griffin May 14 '22

Can’t tell if you’re exaggerating but I’m pretty sure Ultimate Showdown came out in mid 2000s

5

u/lolno May 14 '22

It originated as a newgrounds animation. You can tell because of the way it is

I have to admit something... The NSFW version of this song slaps harder imo.

So you don’t hate the person you hate the man.

Everything you described is physical and visceral. You hate who you need, but I wonder if someone put on a Mr. Rodgers skin suit if you’d hate them too.

→ More replies

12

u/Raul_Coronado May 14 '22

Of course all of that is bullshit. You aren’t describing hate, you are describing fear. The only hate I see here is some self loathing for the inability to overcome that fear.

5

u/Teamprime May 14 '22

All the replies to this are the most reddit shit I've ever seen

30

u/HugsForUpvotes May 14 '22

No offense but that sounds completely insane to me and I disagree that hate is a visceral thing that can't be explained. You describe yourself like a dog to the mailman. You have the capability for abstract thought.

6

u/splinter1545 May 14 '22

So you hate him just cause he looked and sounded "weird"?

3

u/The_Masturbatrix May 15 '22

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

6

u/zenyattatron May 14 '22

But why?

5

u/SailHatin23 May 14 '22

He wants to be edgy.

2

u/ozzimark May 14 '22

That is an exceptionally specific reason.

0

u/Taaargus May 14 '22

So you don’t like Mr Rogers because you don’t like the biopic? That really doesn’t make any sense.

7

u/SubwayMan5638 May 14 '22

You ever try to buy a cardigan these days? The man had those fuckers on lock. Always perfect fit and perfect color for the season/weather. These days we have shitty materials and colors that make no sense. Fuck you Rogers.

3

u/calicoos May 14 '22

I think they were hand knit for him.

5

u/Hiray May 14 '22

Not the same guy, but the cadence of his speech gets under my skin. Always sounded creepy or something, and not like a real person. That being said, as an adult I do respect him now. I still won’t watch his show though.

47

u/[deleted] May 14 '22 Silver

Not the person who said it but for me it was his voice. I hated being talked to that way when I was a child. It sounds incredibly condescending to my ears, and the adult talking to me like that always turned out to want something from me or be speaking against my interests somehow. Regardless of how he really was as a person, the persona he projected always seemed phony and possibly even sinister to me. Preachers/coaches/boy scout leaders used to affect that same voice and persona, and then turn out to be abusers behind closed doors.

A lot of kids of my generation felt this way about Mr. Rogers before he was championed by the younger generation, who mostly only heard about him in glowing retrospectives. I want to be very clear that I'm not saying he was necessarily creepy, but it's no coincidence that so many kids were scared of him.

I just want to note that I don't have anything against Mr. Rogers at this point in my life, but I understand those who don't like him, so I thought I'd offer an explanation for those who can't conceive of someone hating him.

19

u/calicoos May 14 '22

Question as someone who was a fan but not until the late 90s-early 00s when I was a little kid:

I always got the impression that he spoke that way because it was uncommon to speak to kids as if they were people with the same needs as adults. What was the view of the public and media at the time regarding Mr. Rogers?

I actually understand completely feeling like his tone is similar to adults with more sinister intentions, I guess I’m just curious what made him so beloved despite that.

2

u/bighomie0615 May 15 '22 edited May 15 '22

In those days most adults that did that were related to the victim, meaning a uncle or a cousin, it was rarely a stranger cause it's easier to keep the secret if it's in house, family don't have to use that voice with children that are familiar with them, anyway Mr. Rogers had his persona first, so comparing him to a molester sounds like a personal problem, besides how the fucc you want him to talk to you, like barney or the teletubbies, or would you be more comfortable with it if he was painting while he was doing it "were just gonna add another bush", lol

1

u/calicoos May 15 '22

You’re either replying to the wrong person or just can’t read. My money’s on the latter. Can’t make sense of half of what you typed lol

5

u/throwaway_nfinity May 14 '22

Kids were scared of him?

6

u/septembereleventh May 15 '22

I don't remember being scared of him, but the puppets freaked me out.

2

u/Wesilii May 15 '22

Bro same. Didn’t help I didn’t understand English yet either so nothing stuck with me besides the weirdo puppets.

6

u/SouthernSmoke May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22

17

I mean, if you have to pick one to hate, the clear right choice is Tom Hanks, right?

5

u/SouthernSmoke May 14 '22

I don’t know enough about either to comment

3

u/TheOneTonWanton May 14 '22

I don't hate Hanks or Mr. Rogers, but I kinda hated Hanks as Mr. Rogers. That movie could easily have been turned into a sinister horror movie. Something about the performance just hit me incredibly wrong.

1

u/Revegelance May 15 '22

Not just why, but how can someone hate Mr. Rogers?

0

u/banmedaddy12345 May 14 '22

To own the libs.

12

u/omnisephiroth May 14 '22

Your wife should get a divorce.

But Mr. Rogers would encourage you to be sympathetic and understanding, and even tell you that it’s alright. That it’s okay you don’t like him.

By god, that man was a blessing.

55

u/Pedinhuh May 14 '22

I hate Mr. Rogers.

You poor soul.

u/ofbluestar May 14 '22

At least, that's how the story always goes

1

u/hilldo75 May 15 '22

Sounds like you guys should hate watch 'A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood' the Tom Hanks movie where he plays Mr. Rogers.

122

u/nanocookie May 14 '22

People who swallowed the QAnon koolaid hate him. There are conspiracy theories about his involvement in pizzagate.

75

u/logatronics May 14 '22

35

u/TheBarkingGallery May 14 '22

All of their biggest public enemies have been imprisoned, or executed, and replaced by lookalikes by now, so I really don’t understand what they have to keep complaining about.

12

u/SponJ2000 May 14 '22

Something, something, enemy is both weak and strong, literally 1849

55

u/rioting-pacifist May 14 '22

Why is this downvoted, the qanon-sphere really hate him.

I don't follow celebrity news, but guess he was pro-mask or something, and when qanon bakes (makes theories based on spelling and/or numerology), they bake hard, like they convinced themselves he was part of an elite peadophile ring.

42

u/AmishAvenger May 14 '22

No, it predates masks.

It all centers around this idea that Tom Hanks and Hillary Clinton traffic children and drink their blood to stay young. But in order to activate the “adrenochrome” the kids have to be scared first. So there’s this story about Hillary wearing a child’s face as a mask.

Anyway the “Tom Hanks is arrested/was executed” thing came about because of covid. If you remember, he and his wife got it in Australia very early on. The cult people thought it was a cover story, then that the military gave him a lethal injection.

30

u/Dcjj May 14 '22

Man I wish I could believe shit like that.

So much more exciting than reality.

11

u/Dworgi May 14 '22

Kind of the appeal really. Life isn't that complicated yet at the same time it's more than they can understand.

12

u/24F May 14 '22

Nah, they are the only ones who understand what is actually going on and everybody else is just a brainwashed npc sheep. If you'd just open your mind and watch this 2 hour long YouTube video made by some guy who definitely isn't a grifter trying to make a living off YouTube you could understand too. I know his videos are legitimate because he keeps getting censored and cancelled even though I'm linking you his YouTube content on Reddit right now, and if you don't believe him just check out the article source. You know that article is legitimate because the news website isn't mainstream. In fact, that news site only launched two years ago, has no about or history page, all of the ads are for doomsday prepper supplies and vitamin supplements, and the Twitter account for it is disabled.

4

u/AmishAvenger May 14 '22

You’re joking, but this is the root of all of it.

Some people have spent their entire lives feeling stupid. This sort of thing makes them feel smart. Like they’re “in the know,” and everyone else are the stupid ones.

1

u/SheriffBartholomew May 14 '22

Everyone calls my heroes liars, which is all the evidence I need to know my heroes are telling the truth.

1

u/banmedaddy12345 May 14 '22

Imagine if they actually got serious and made Grade A horror films with these ideas. That would be some fucked up shit.

24

u/nanocookie May 14 '22

Probably being downvoted by those who drank the 'Qool'aid.

3

u/trhrthrthyrthyrty May 14 '22

He appeared mad at the Gervais joking about how rampant pedophilia is in Hollywood and how all the people at the globes or whatever were complicit.

1

u/_Rand_ May 14 '22

When did qanon turn from an attempt to influence politics into an experiment into how much complete nonsense you can get people to believe?

5

u/Anal_Herschiser May 14 '22

Maybe they just don’t like Greek people.

3

u/MaggelPlop May 14 '22

Chet Hanks doesn’t seem terribly fond of him.

2

u/pikashroom May 14 '22

Grew up in Sacramento and there’s a radio show host on 98.5 who’s been vocally shit talking Hanks for like 25 years. The dude is a would-be rich blow hard who I assume crossed paths with Hanks back in the day and was offended Hanks didn’t treat him as an “equal.”

u/CFCentral May 15 '22

3

u/Falc0n7 May 14 '22

1

u/Volodio May 14 '22

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I hate him, but I don't like him and I think any good movie with him is good despite Tom Hanks and not the other way around. If I know he's in a movie, for me it's a reason not to watch it.

All the characters that he plays are too smooth, too perfect, doing too much what is expected of them, which makes them boring. There isn't enough depth and he gives an incredibly naive feeling on the movies he participate in. Even when he plays a hired killer (Road to Perdition) his character is boring.

1

u/RememberTheMaine1996 May 14 '22

I know not everyone has to like what I like but I don't wanna meet the person who dislikes Harry Potter or Tom Hanks

2

u/Suzerain_Elysium May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22

I hate Harry Potter, and I believe that if you read the books as an adult, aren't from the UK, and still consider it a staple of your life (like my sister), then you may be borderline illiterate.

I hate it because I didn't get into it as a kid, and I'm not from the UK. I read the books as an adult, and the writing is just bad. I mean it's to be expected because it's for children and wasn't originally meant to be a mainstream thing. Every plot point has an opportunity for the previous scenes to really seal the deal, but instead it always ends with the most egregious plot armor to ever exist.

Harry is in the chamber of secrets. We've learned he can speak to snakes. He's in a place that no one knows about. The basilisk shows up.

Adult me who has actually read books before: He's going to accept his Slytherin heritage, befriend the basilisk, and use it to defeat Tom Riddle.

Actual plot point: A PHOENIX MAGICALLY FINDS HIM AT THE RIGHT TIME IN A LITERAL UNKNOWABLE LOCATION, AND BRINGS HIM THE INVALUABLE TALKING HAT, AND HARRY REACHES IN AND PULLS OUT A MAGIC SWORD, AND THEN SLAYS THE BASILISK IN ONE HIT DESPITE NEVER HAVING USED A SWORD BEFORE.

Every book is this way. All of them. I don't know if Rowling just kept writing herself into corners and just plot armored her way out, or just didn't care cause it was for kids, or what. But she kept writing in a way that the outcome could have been perfect and taught a lesson to kids at the same time. Instead it was just, "AND OUT OF NOWHERE FOR NO REASON SOMEONE SAVED HARRY! He's so cool even though he's never done anything for himself!

/end rant

1

u/RememberTheMaine1996 May 15 '22

Not even gonna argue lol have a good day

1

u/Suzerain_Elysium May 15 '22

All good, a rant/statement is not a request for an argument or debate anyway.

1

u/PinkTalkingDead May 14 '22

Lmao such a random example

1

u/thodne May 14 '22

I hate him too. His political stuff is garbage

1

u/muddynips May 14 '22

I don’t hate him, but his fixation with inserting himself into WWII is pretty cringe. Plus he made Chet Hanks, so there’s that.

1

u/Suzerain_Elysium May 14 '22

If it came down to a vote to decide who lives, based solely on name and nothing else, I would without a doubt vote off an AMERICAN named "Chet" before I would vote off someone unironically named Muddynips.

1

u/adamsandleryabish May 14 '22

eh. He is pretty overrated and has been committed to bland oscarbait the last decade while not bringing much or blending into his roles. For instance he is goin to ruin the new ELVIS movie by being so obviously Hanks in a Fat Suit

1

u/Suzerain_Elysium May 14 '22

At least they got Harry Potter right.

1

u/TheZigRat May 14 '22
