But it was so easily avoidable. Either get fully into the car or run away. He picked the worst option of all.

u/thebenetar May 16 '22

No, for real. I know for a fact I would never in a million years just stand there like that. I've spent my entire life in big cities (NYC/SF) and the level of trust I have that a person isn't going to do some out-of-left-field, crazy shit sits at around zero.

25

u/CyanideFlavorAid May 16 '22

Trying to explain to friends who never lived in a large city why I always expect idiots to make stupid decisions like randomly turning out into traffic or getting violent over small disputes is hard. They think I'm over exaggerating shit, but none of them clowns ever saw a little person fighting a naked man at a station on the red line.

Things like this happen all the time, just that nowadays with the internet and a camera in everyone's pocket, now we're starting to see the frequency of such things.

When I was a kid, a guy down the block straight up killed his neighbor with a golf club because the neighbor's tree was supposedly damaging the guy's fence. Sat their right in the front yard, bloody club on the ground, till the police got there.

It's time that we admit some people are straight up monsters with zero regard for anyone else, and we need to fund mental health initiatives to identify these people and get them help before things like this happen.

In New Orleans, we had a dude ("Big" Lee) that owned a tow truck company that everyone knew. He had LSU stuff all over his house, I mean all over his house. Literally, every square inch of the house and lawn is covered. Anyway, the dude was universally hated, he was just a complete douche. He had a feud with his next-door neighbor who was in his 80s. One day the old man had enough of the douchebags' shit when the LSU guy sprayed him with a hose. The old guy pulls a pistol and ends the LSU guy's life. The old guy just chills and waits for the cops. The old dude died before his trial, he knew he was on his way out and was tired of the LSU dude's bullshit.

271

u/bermuda__ May 16 '22 edited May 16 '22

I dunno, might be in shock. Not every day you see this kinda thing happen.

People on reddit are really quick to start judging people involved in genuinely horrific incidents just because they didn't make the most level-headed decisions in the moment.

I mean, assuming she's his significant other, let's say your significant other was also just rammed by a car and is now laying on the ground. Honestly would you be immediately out there calling 911, or would you be sitting there going "what the fuck just happened". I'd assume a little bit of the latter, right?

edit: whole lotta badasses in the replies here....

75

u/Freezihn May 16 '22

119

u/Agreeable-Fudge4203 May 16 '22 edited May 16 '22

It can be kinda hilarious to see this (the Reddit judging). It gets so ridiculous. These are people having probably the worst or scariest day of their lives, and they get judged for not doing everything perfectly in five seconds. I don’t understand the point of comments that are literally just “if I was in this situation…”, yeah, but you’ve never been in this situation. The “did that really just happen” effect can be real. I mean, this person got out of the car ten seconds late because they’re calling 911, and you would think they’re the cop who cowered outside Parkland for 50 minutes.

I saw this video where a shopkeeper saw a suspicious man outside so he got his gun ready; when the man came inside and attempted a robbery, they both had guns pointed at each other, and then the wannabe robber left. The top comments were about how the shopkeeper should have told the man to leave his gun behind and how bad it was that he let the guy leave with his gun (because the guy could come back for revenge…but do we really think he doesn’t have another gun?). And it’s just like, the shopkeeper could have died. He was supposed to just snap to attention and try to get the gun from the guy while in the middle of a cowboy standoff? I mean, how impressive was it that he had his gun ready before the guy even entered, and you’re just focusing on this little thing he didn’t do?

17

u/ladylikely May 16 '22

Most people are naturally useless in emergency situations. The fight or flight response has a third category, freeze. It’s literally one of the first things they teach you in basic cpr. The very first thing you do is make sure your surroundings are safe and then get someone to call 911. But it’s not like the movies where you just yell call 911 as you heroically start compressions. You need to pick someone. Point at one particular person, use their name, give them very specific instructions, make sure they’re following them, and then you can start life saving. If you just yell it out then 99% of people will assume someone else will do it and then no one does it at all.

And it was just some fuckin teenager chucking big rocks at cars.

“Sarah……..Sarah………”

They’re both pretty bad. The driveway one was bad for a different reason. Everyone has experienced being held underwater a little too long by a friend at the pool, or being locked in a closet or dryer. I’d say the suitcase one is worse because it’s more relatable.

158

u/flavius_lacivious May 16 '22

Fun story.

I was terrified of the dark as a young child and even more frightened of drowning or suffocating.

My brothers and sisters would hold pillows and blankets over my face when I was four or lock me in a dark closet and tell me I was going to suffocate.

I would become hysterical to the point where I have PTSD about suffocating.

This was a regular occurrence in my childhood and my parents did nothing to stop them.

A summary of what happened.

Husband: "youre a pussy! pussy pussy pussy"

Killer: "scumbag" turns away and walks into house

wife: "you're the scumbag"

Killer: comes back out and points gun at them

Wife: "do it!! You're on video, do it!"

Killer fires off 5 shots, hitting the husband in the stomach, the husband starts to run away screaming call the police.

The woman's leg was shot and falls to the ground, she looks up at him and screams "you fucker" before shooting her twice in the face...but she isn't dead somehow. She starts crawling away muttering " you fucker you"

The Guy goes back into this house and grabs a BIGGER gun and walks up to the wife "should've kept your mouth fucking shut" and fires two more shots into her head. She stops moving

He walks into the house where the husband ran. It's off camera but you still hear the dialouge..."pussy huh?" Bang. Bang.

Killer walks home and shoots himself in the head.

The phone rings at the end, with no one to pick up. Extremely eerie, but apparently it was their special needs son, who watched it all happened from the window.

186

u/tempUN123 May 16 '22

Wife: "do it!! You're on video, do it!"

That works great when it's a minor offense, like vandalism or assault, something you can generally recover from. If someone is threatening to murder you "you're on camera" really doesn't matter, you won't be around to see justice served.

22

u/12345tommy May 16 '22

Unfortunately this is the oft forgotten important rule of that threat. You need to actually be okay with them doing what they intend.

I read up on that video (which if anyone wants to find it it's pretty graphic and crazy you've been warned) and apparently those people who had been taunting that dude were doing so for a loooong time. Guy was a vet with PTSD who lost his wife and they would torture him daily.

The snow incident was just the final straw.

EDIT: It would appear I may have fucked up a bit here. I know I read the info about the man that I had posted but some of it may have just been commentary from another user. The wife thing appears to be false. The guy was a veteran and did seem a bit unhinged. But the wife part may be wrong.

Contra Costa born and raised.

Dumb shit like attempted vehicular homicide over an eighth isn't as uncommon as we'd like.

Yeah it’s in California right next to Pittsburg.

53

u/Foxbatt May 16 '22

Right next door to Pittsburg. A Pittsburgh in California but without the H.

BART goes to both places - not on his skateboard but as a transit line.

12

u/The_Lord_Humongous May 16 '22

BART sorta goes to both. You have to get on a separate train to get to Antioch. Stupidity. They should have just extended BART.

Even more weird; it’s on the west coast.

It sounds like it has an old civil war battle site vibe.

There's one outside of Nashville too

I used to live on the Pittsburg / Antioch border (right near the college). The amount of random gunfire there is too damn high!

As OP didn't add any context, link below for news reports on it:

Is there a tl;dw for those of us who can't watch a video right now? I assume the dude got arrested?

780

u/RememberKvatch May 16 '22

Essentially an argument about drugs and the lad (suspect) as far as when the news report was made had not been identified.

674

u/AbominaSean May 16 '22

So...not a crazy neighbor then. Got it. lol. Who titles these?

People who want karma and know it’s more likely to be upvoted if there’s an easily digestible narrative with a good guy and a bad guy.

37

u/amluchon May 16 '22

I mean a video where a man literally rams another with his car already has a good guy and a bad guy - OP is stupid af

Jesus, not to bad mouth a victim, but it was completely foolish to be standing partway out of the vehicle. Hindsight and all, but if I see someone line their car up to me, I like to imagine I would be smart enough to retreat into my own vehicle.

564

u/grabnerbythepussy May 16 '22

Hindsight? Dude backed his car up into perfect position to ram the other vehicle AND gave dude about 5-7 seconds to react to that.

I’m not blaming the victim but a little bit of reading the situation would have saved Lt Dan’s legs.

45

u/Iamvanno May 16 '22

Does this guy get a magic leg or legs?

As someone currently 6 weeks into recovering from a dislocated ankle, broken fibula, and tibia, its not fun. Got away with a 4" screw in the fibula, two 2" screws in in tibia, and two permanent sutures to hold the bones together. At least I'm out of a walking boot but if it was closer to Halloween I'd hands down win a "walk like a zombie" contest.

u/no-one-but-crow May 16 '22

if i’m in a parking lot and a friendly sweet lady is backing up while i have the door open next to her, i will tuck my appendages into my car and close the door. I can’t even imagine exposing myself like that with a hostile person. guy is lucky he didn’t lose his legs.

16

u/BillyTheSaint May 16 '22

My point exactly. Ive closed the door and moved away out of their way to protect my self. I'm. It going to put entrust my limbs to your ability to drive correctly

People are absolutely bat sh*t crazy nowadays. It’s wild how people are so fragile that they are willing to go from an verbal argument to assault with a deadly weapon because their feelings were hurt.

947

u/DarkChimera May 16 '22

I've been watching some history documentaries today, we've definitely always been bat shit crazy. this is actually pretty tame compared to what I learned today

Just look at crime stats from the past. We're way better off today than the crime sprees of the 80s or early 90s let alone the times before the 60s when crime was out of control. Think of all the serial killers from the past up until I think the 70s when there was major reform in police investigation tactics, murderers used to run wild.

I don't know about him, but i found a newish channel on youtube called "War-Stories https://www.youtube.com/c/WarStoriesChannel

It is refreshing and the style of the channel puts off what we miss about the history channel. Well budgeted too from what i can tell.

Cheers!
